In June of 2016, restaurateurs Jeffrey and Michael Mastro opened Steak 48, bringing Houston exciting steakhouse guests to rave about. The duo’s goal was to add to the growth of River Oaks restaurants by establishing a contemporary American steakhouse featuring prime grade steaks and fresh seafood.

Experience something new in our Chef’s dining room! This space seats 14 guests and is squarely in the middle of the action with a one-of-a-kind view of our kitchen. We also have private dining rooms available for parties and events. Host your next business meeting or corporate event in a private dining space complete with a fireplace, a 50-inch television, and custom drapes for privacy.

The River Oaks steakhouse was not the first foray into the restaurant industry for the Mastro brothers. Steak 48 is inspired by their Phoenix location, Steak 44. In fact, the name Steak 48 is an acknowledgment of their roots, paying tribute to the fact that Arizona was the United States’ 48th entry into the Union. The brothers have a history of operating other successful restaurant concepts, including Mastro’s Steakhouse and Mastro’s Ocean Club, which they sold in 2007.

The Mastro ownership group, Prime Steak Concepts, have entrusted the culinary operation of Steak 48 to Executive Chef Jeff Taylor. Chef Taylor has nearly 20 years of experience in the culinary realm, and has worked in Texas since 2000. Chef Taylor works closely with Steak 48 to serve the best steaks in Houston and bring a regional flare to the menu.

Each ingredient brought into Steak 48 must pass Chef Taylor’s rigorous standards before it is even considered for the menu. Our prime grade beef is sourced from responsible farms. Steaks served at our restaurant are wet aged for 28 days, then hand-cut by our master butcher.

Each steak is cut by hand in our restaurant and delivered directly to the kitchen. Having an on-site butcher allows us to custom cut steaks for each dinner service and offer the tender and flavorful steaks Houston foodies crave.

We are also very careful about where our fish and seafood comes from, trusting only sustainable sources for our ingredients. Our prime grade steaks and seafood entrees are complemented by innovative side dishes and an expansive raw seafood bar. Our raw bar is stocked with fresh oysters from both coasts, Alaskan king crab, and succulent Maine lobster.

Delicious side dishes on the menu include classic American steakhouse options and our own innovative creations. Popular sides include the Corn Creme Brulee, Double Baked Truffle Potato, and Asparagus Fries. We also serve tantalizing appetizers like Fried Deviled Eggs and Fresh Burrata to whet your appetite before you dig into the best steaks in Houston. After the dinner plates have been cleared away, our decadent dessert menu is sure to tempt you with seasonal treats.
